Springtime fun!
Spring has arrived! We embraced the spring spirit this week in the Green classroom.
We talked about “signs of Spring” like seeing flowers starting to sprout and bloom, seeing dandelions, and seeing bunnies and squirrels.
For our art projects, we made bunny puppets, painted eggs, and another collaborative art project using plastic eggs as stamps. To make designs on the eggs, the children placed tape on the paper. They painted the egg. When the paint dried, we took the tape off and revealed the designs.
In circle time, we used our bunny puppets to act out and sing one of our favorite songs “Hop little Bunnies”
I am adding the link in case you want to sing it at home.

In the sensory table, we had popcorn kernels with carrot containers, chick containers, fake carrots and orange paper grass. The children “fed” the chicks and explored the sensory experience of the kernels
At the tables, the children dug for carrot erasers in kinetic sand. They counted the carrots to see if they found all of them. One table had a “planting flowers” activity where the children matched the colored flower to the corresponding colored slot on the egg carton. At the third table, the children hid bunnies in plastic eggs and placed them on a bunny shaped egg plate and an egg carton.
On the rug, the children played ring toss. They practiced taking turns and cheered each other on! They also did some reading on the rug.
The children looked for more Maple sprouts outside and observed the growth of the ones they found last week. Since the children have been very interested in the growing plants, we decided to plant some flowers in our classroom. First the children, observed the seeds and made observations on the size, look, and feel. We took turns putting soil into the pots. Then, dug little holes and placed the seeds inside. Finally, we had our plant waterer water the seeds. We talked about how we need to place the pot by the window where it can get a lot of sun.
For cooking, we made cheesy bread. The children enjoyed using their hands to spread the dough out on the baking sheet. They made observations on how it smelt and felt on their hands. They took turns spreading the butter onto the bread using a basting brush. Next, they sprinkled cheese on the top. We watched it bake and discussed what it smelt like while it was baking.
